31000 Miles in a Year of Riding

31000 miles
Yesterday, while riding the groves of FlatLand, the GL1800 turned over 31000 miles with ten days to go before she is a year old!

Who knows, she may clear 32000 before the 17th.

Hey, It's Florida Outside! I'm going riding.

I am getting in trouble in my neighborhood from Green Movement advocates, and global warming leaders.

They are asking me if I am aware that it is the "riding" mentality that has contributed heavily to Americas wasteful reputation throughout the world.

What they said was that if we take all the production of crude oil everywhere on Earth on a particular day, there is exactly 1 1/2 gallons of the stuff for every adult living on the planet.

The average adult they say in the US uses over 6 gallons of crude every day to sustain the American lifestyle. That's over four times our fair share.

And, then we have jockeys like me, they say, who ride around making matters worse, not for transportation, but just to ride.

Then they went after my dog.

The President of our local Green organization said that it takes two acres of farm land to support every dog in the US. That's 60 million acres of ground that has to be worked just to support animals that in other cultures would be used for sandwiches.

I'm not sure what to say.

This is the way I was raised.

In order to reduce my crude consumption to even half of what I use now, the bikes for pleasure riding are out of the question.

So are the dogs.

What to say to them?

I have to admit, I'm with you.

I love burning up the road, and I love my bike in doing it.

But, I don't want to have to plunder other countries to maintain the crude flow here in order to do it.

And, that's what would have to happen if all of us don't give up "riding" just for the sake of riding, we are going to have to keep beating the heck out of other countries to make sure that they send more of our fair share of crude to the States.

What say you?

Right now I am persona non grata in my oh so ecologically responsible neighborhood.

Vincenti

31,ooo miles. Man, how is your behind feeling after that?

Never mind the wear and tear on the bike, that's some serious mileage on your own frame.

I'm from Australia so I'm gonna convert it to kilometres but any way you look at it...it's a long way mama.
