I have been using a set of custom made earbuds that are molded to your ear.
They block out virtually all sound not present in the audio one may be enjoying. They work too well in fact, and approach being dangerous as you hear nothing coming from your bike, or other's bikes or cars or trucks or sirens etc.

After a lot of searching and some testing, I have found some earbuds that work amazingly well for a very inexpensive price. So cheap that I picked up three sets for under thirty dollars US.
I decided to get the Black colored earbuds as they were the least expensive and the only difference is the color.

All are looking great and not much expensive.
I’m disappointed with my J&M headset because it must be pressed firmly to my ears in order to get any kind of quality sound… and have avoided ear buds for the safety reason you mentioned. So now I must ask, do these new, less expensive ear buds allow enough outside noise in to make you feel a little safer while still being true to the music?
